The National Center of Ocean Standards & Metrology (NCOSM), located at Jieyuanxi Road, Nankai District, Tianjin, was approved to be established by the State Commission Office of Public Sectors Reform in October 1989. The NCOSM is an institution affiliated to the Ministry of Natural Resources of China and guided and supervised by the State Administration for Market Regulation of China professionally. It also acts as the WMO-IOC Regional Marine Instrument Center for the Asia-Pacific (RMIC/AP) from 2012. It mainly takes charge of national ocean standardization, metrology and quality supervision, and to provide the technical support and public service for the marine industry development, marine economic development, integrated ocean management, marine science and technology progress and national defense construction.
