Abstract

The “Colombian Oceanographic Data and Information Coordination Committee” (CTN Diocean, by its initials in Spanish) presents your Reference Manual on Best Oceanic Data Practices No.4/2019 "data and information archeology and rescue”. In the context of Global Archeology and Oceanographic Data Rescue (GODAR) project, the term “data archaeology and rescue” refers to a two-part process: the first one, “archaeology”, is the process of seeking out, restoring, evaluating, correcting, and interpreting historical data sets; the second one, “rescue”, is the effort to save data at risk of being lost to the science community by digitizing manuscript data, copying on electronic media and archiving these data into an internationally available electronic database (IOC, 1999). It’s so, this book describes the experiences that different Colombian institutions have had in the matter, in order to have historical and recent data and information in digital format, and provide them to the community in a standardized and interoperable way for reuse.
